What products or types of products are currently profiled in Santa Fe, New Mexico?
It varies from store to store and from brand to brand. There are some flowers that reach the store with no profile at all, but we’ll get a description of effects and taste from the grower. Other times they are lab tested and we have a profile, where they’ve tested for 27 or 30 or so of the terpenes. More and more edibles are now starting to put terpenes in their ingredients list. They know that people are concerned about their intake, and they want accurate medicine for whatever syndrome or symptoms they’re having. Wyld, for example, has info on which terpenes are in each blend. So does First Crop, I believe. For vaporizers, it’s also hit and miss. Bloom does a pretty good job, but they only give you the top three. That’s not really enough to go on if you’re treating something specific. Now, if it’s a hard leaning sativa like Green Crack, that profile could be almost entirely limonene; same with Acapulco Gold. And a few indicas have so much myrcene in them that it constitutes almost the entire terpene profile. For those kinds of strains, I guess three terpenes is helpful, but for the vast majority in the middle, three isn’t enough to go on. So the consumer just has to do the homework and do the research. There are some stores that have detailed digital websites and you can go to the store menu and get a full description of the product – as full a description as the store knows anyway. But we are now at the stage that we are at. That information isn’t consolidated yet. There are some products around the corner, some things that are happening. There’s StrainGo, for example, which matches consumers with the profile they’re looking for, or with the effects they’re looking for. And that’s, well, that could be a game changer in the state.
