Visiting a Dispensary For the First Time in in Santa Fe, New Mexico

What questions might be best to ask a budtender if you’re new to cannabis in Santa Fe, New Mexico?

If you’re absolutely new to cannabis, it’s really important to talk to your budtender about dosing, particularly with edibles. ’cause too much is too much. And until recently there were no backsies. There was no way to undo the effects. People come in expecting to have a good time. Then eat unknown edible on vacation and end up being, you know, a paranoid mess the whole time when ruining their friend’s party. So it’s really important to know the dose that you’re getting, how rapidly it’ll come on, and about how long to expect it will last. And your budtender may not be able to answer these questions with more than generalities because he or she might not know you. And everyone’s metabolism is a little bit, if not a lot different. Are there indicators to know what dispensaries might be most helpful when it comes to pairing products with customers? Of course you want to feel that they know what they’re talking about so you go to their website and see how detailed the descriptions are. Do they even have the information? Budtenders don’t always want to be bugged with phone calls, but you can reach out that way too. From the street, you can’t always tell. There are some huge conglomerates that are all over the place and yet don’t seem to know what they’re talking about. Or at least the people they hire to do front of house don’t seem to know. And there are some other mom-and-pops that’ll give you a dictionary entry on everything. You kind of have to go in and get a sense of the place. Some feel clean and open like an Apple store, and some feel more like a pharmacy, and some feel like a head shop. And some frankly feel like you’re visiting a friend in prison. I’d probably avoid those with the armed guards and the heavy glass ’cause they’re more about slinging pinners to the heads than providing quality medicine to people that need it.
