Cannabigerol is a precursor to THC and as such is found in immature cannabis and hemp plants. CBG imitates endocannabinoids, natural compounds that our body makes to regulate mood and immunity. CBG does not have psychotropic effects like THC, so it will not impair mental activity.
CBG binds directly to both CB1 and CB2 receptors where it is thought to strengthen the function of anandamide, a naturally occuring endocannabinoid that has been dubbed “the feel good molecule.” Research on CBG shows it has promise in treating anxiety, depression, chronic pain, inflammatory bowel disease, glaucoma, as well as symptoms of Huntington’s Disease. CBG even has promise as a cancer treatment. In a 2020 study it was found that CBG stopped breast cancer cells from multiplying while disabling inflammatory cells.
CBG’s anti-anxiety benefits work best in combination with CBD. Due to a little understood phenomenon known as the “entourage effect,” most users experience enhanced results by consuming multiple cannabinoids together rather than simply consuming one isolated cannabinoid.
